Creating a mural at Stella Maris School
I am delighted to be given the task of creating a mural with my artists in class 5 & 6 at the lovely Stella Maris school.
I introduced the children to the art Brazillian 'Neo pop' Artist 'Romero Britto'. Britto's work is bold and colourful with simple drawing shapes and patterns and he explores the theme 'love and happiness'. The kids loved it and so do I. How about you?
First step design work....
I showed the children Britto's amazing bold art and we discussed the contrasting colours he used, the style of his simplistic drawing and the happy themes he depicted. I then gave the children the task of creating a large drawing 'Britto style' of something they love about school.
Some children chose Science and drew planets and test tubes. Others chose Art as a fave subject and drew artists, paint palettes and easles.
There were some great designs of footballers, children reading, musical instruments... there was such a great variety.
Step 2... The writings on the wall. After all our designs were complete I then blew them up on the photocopier from A3 to A2. (A larger picture will be easier for them to paint) the children then began tracing their image directly onto the wall with a pencil.
The wall is now outlined and looks fantastic. The next stage is to outline our pencil sketch with a black marker and then get onto the fun part...
Adding colour!!! We will be painting the mural with Matt acrylic paint and I can't wait to see th
